Journey to Selection
Q: How did you first hear about the opportunity to participate in the world tournament bowling in Turkey?
A: Turkish Airlines in the Philippines invited the top 30 travel agents in the country to participate in a bowling tournament on March 21, 2024. Fiesta Tours, being one of the top agents, was also invited. The team with the highest points would qualify to play in the Grand Finals in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 26-28, 2024.
Q: What was the selection process like, and how were you chosen to represent Fiesta?
A: Fiesta selected the top bowlers from our previous inter-office tournament, which happened to be me, Ms. Em, and Dan. Luckily, we won the Philippine leg of the Turkish Airlines tournament.
Preparation and Training
Q: Can you describe your preparation and training regimen leading up to the tournament?
A: Due to conflicting time with our office works, we scheduled our practice five days before our flight to Istanbul. We practiced two games a day after work for three consecutive days, then rested one day before the flight. This way, we didn’t get too tired, and our practice stayed fresh. We are grateful to Boss Dolly and Ms. Gia for their support. They even bought us bowling shoes to make us more comfortable. Boss Dolly also wanted to buy us bowling balls, but players weren’t allowed to bring personal balls on this event.
Q: Did you face any particular challenges during your training? How did you overcome them?
A: Our biggest challenge was finding time to practice because we were all busy with work. But we overcame the challenge easily with the management’s support that inspired the team.
Experience at the Tournament
Q: What was your first impression upon arriving in Turkey for the tournament?
A: I can’t really explain the feeling. It was a unique experience playing for the Philippines and representing Fiesta and the Philippine Travel Industry on the international stage.
Q: Can you share some memorable moments from the tournament itself?
A: It was an amazing and unforgettable experience to play alongside the top agents in the travel industry from all over the world. It was also heartwarming to see Filipinos playing for other countries like Kuwait, Italy, and Denmark. It just shows that Filipinos are among the best in the world.
Team Dynamics and Support
Q: How did you and your team members support each other throughout the competition? Were there any specific strategies or techniques that your team focused on during the tournament?
A: Our goal back in the Philippines was to be number one to qualify for this Grand Finals, and being there was already an achievement. That was our mindset. We played as a team and aimed to at least enter the top 10 for this event, and we were happy with that. Anything higher was a bonus. Our strategy was simple: I told the team to just relax, focus, and enjoy the game to remove the pressure.
Winning the Tournament
Q: What was your immediate reaction when you realized your team had won the tournament?
A: When we won and heard the announcer shouting, “And the winner is Fiesta Philippines,” honestly, it didn’t sink in right away. I only felt it when we were on stage, raising the Philippine flag. And wow! It was an incredible feeling, especially after seeing the reactions on Facebook from our industry friends congratulating us.
Q: How did it feel to be recognized on stage and receive the award from Turkish Airlines?
A: Being recognized globally in the travel industry felt amazing. And when we received the award, the team said, “This is it. Totoo na to.”

Q: How did Fiesta Tours and Travel support you and your team throughout this journey?
A: Boss Dolly, Ms. Gia, and the whole Fiesta family supported us from day one up to the end of our journey. Because of the time difference, “lahat sila nag puyat sa kakapanood sa fb live” from the actual tournament up to the awarding ceremony.
Q: How did your colleagues at Fiesta react to your win?
A: Fiesta Tours organized a victory party when we returned to the office.
